Overview & Projections

Tender rejection rates experienced a slight decline last week, suggesting a softening freight market overall. While most regions showed signs of improvement or neutrality, certain areas of the Northeast, Pacific Northwest, and Midwest are demonstrating above-average rate increases. Specifically, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana, along with Western states such as Nevada, Washington, and Oregon, are experiencing tightening conditions as we move into the week. On the other hand, Northern Florida and Mississippi are trending in a more favorable direction.

Despite the softening of the spot market, contracted carriers remain in a strong position, with slightly higher rates compared to the previous year. This presents a strategic opportunity to secure carrier contracts now, as locking in these agreements could yield significant benefits in the long term. With dry van rates expected to rise in the fall, capitalizing on current contracted rates could lead to better cost efficiency in the months ahead.

Arizona

Once Southwestern Arizona can gain constant coverage, then it will move into a plentiful status.

California (Northern)

Central California and Northern California are improved. Maintaining slightly tight to neutral conditions all week.

California (Southern)

Rates remain the highest within the state. However, as the PNW picks up rates will decrease. Capacity is slowly getting stronger.

Carolinas

Relief is holding its course in South Carolina. Southern and Western North Carolina are moderately tighter.

Eastern United States

Volumes are rising throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey causing rates to remain elevated. Anticipate this trend to hold in August.

Florida (Northern)

Central Florida is improving this week. Northern Florida is the better area to secure trucks which is benefitting Southern Georgia. Northern and Central Georgia is fluctuating the most.

Florida (Southern)

Carriers will deadhead longer distances to find freight. Carrier compliance is up.

Georgia

Central Florida is improving this week. Northern Florida is the better area to secure trucks which is benefitting Southern Georgia. Northern and Central Georgia is fluctuating the most.

Idaho

Holding onto a quality market. Washington and Oregon will move this market soon.

Midwest

Ohio and Central Indiana are the most challenging. All other states have steady capacity.

New York

Neutral conditions and hanging onto positive coverage. Some shifts are occurring in South Central New York.

Washington/Oregon

Availability is declining in Western Washington and Central / Western Oregon. Booking carriers in advance will aid coverage constraints later in the week.

Texas

South Texas is fluctuating day to day. Anticipate moderately tight coverage. Dallas and Houston are consistently more limited.
