Overview & Projections
Back-to-school shipping is expected to increase freight in the dry van market, but no major changes are anticipated. Carrier compliance levels remain high, and tender rejection rates are steady. While most areas will stay consistent, certain regions, such as Washington, Oregon, and the Northeast, may experience slight adjustments in August. This week, some potential shifts may occur in those areas.
The most challenging regions for logistics are likely to include Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Northern Nevada, Memphis, Dallas, and Houston. These areas may see higher shipping rates and more specific destination requirements. Overall, rates in the dry van spot market and contract market are remaining stable. Although some fluctuations may occur due to increased reefer volumes, the market is generally expected to stay consistent this month.
Arizona
Southern California isn’t allowing availability to progress. Carriers will move that direction and hinder Arizona freight.
California (Northern)
Central California and Northern California is trying to improve. Early to mid week will be a better market. Lock in coverage for weekend shipments in advance.
California (Southern)
Continues to be the tightest area within California. Rates are consistent but will be higher than Northern parts.
Carolinas
Relief is moving through South Carolina. Southern and Western North Carolina is moderately tight.
Eastern United States
Volumes are rising throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey causing rates to remain elevated. Anticipate this trend to hold in August.
Florida (Northern)
Central Florida is fluctuating the most especially later in the week. Northern Florida and Southern Georgia are promising. Northern Georgia is more limited.
Florida (Southern)
Better market all around. Carriers will deadhead north as rates are better in Central parts.
Georgia
Central Florida is fluctuating the most especially later in the week. Northern Florida and Southern Georgia are promising. Northern Georgia is more limited.
Idaho
Maintaining a quality market for now. Potential shifts are looming.
Midwest
Ohio is the most challenging state within the region. All other states have steady capacity.
New York
Hanging onto plentiful status. Slight changes are developing and can make a difference in the future.
Washington/Oregon
Coverage shifts are occurring later in the week near Portland. Currently holding onto capacity but availability will shift this month.
Texas
Dallas, Houston and San Antonio remain limited. South Texas is not as favorable as last week but still balanced.
