Overview & Projections
Dry van rates continue to stay down year over year, which is great news for positive carrier contract pricing. We’re likely to see rates dip further through July and August before leveling out by early September. Nationwide, tender volumes are starting to decline. With excess capacity still in place, rates are expected to drop in most regions. Florida and Georgia are positioned to see the biggest improvements, while Pennsylvania and Ohio are experiencing the opposite as those markets tighten.
Freight originating out of the Pacific Northwest or Northeast remains favorable, offering advantageous conditions. However, South Carolina will continue to face limitations until coverage improves in Florida and Georgia. On another note, markets in Dallas and Houston are holding steady, but keep an eye on Central Texas due to potential flooding concerns.
Arizona
Availability is rebounding & all parts are improving including Yuma and Phoenix areas.
California (Northern)
Better market in Northern California. Northern California is loose while Central California is stable. Tighter the further south you go.
California (Southern)
Moderately tight conditions. Rates will improve from last week and balance out throughout July.
Carolinas
Once relief occurs in Georgia and Florida, it will benefit the Carolinas. As of now, market is more difficult.
Eastern United States
Central Pennsylvania and moving east into New Jersey is tightening. Volumes are rising causing market movement. Anticipate this to persist.
Florida (Northern)
Some potential relief in Northern Florida
and Southern Georgia early to mid week.
Will not last as the weekend approaches.
Florida (Southern)
Is surprisingly forecasted to tighten on Thursday and Friday. Better to secure trucks earlier on.
Georgia
Some potential relief in Northern Florida
and Southern Georgia early to mid week.
Will not last as the weekend approaches.
Idaho
Following Washington and Oregon trends. Anticipate a quality market until fall shipping season arrives.
Midwest
Ohio and Indiana continue to be the most demanding. Michigan is progressing, especially around Detroit. Chicago will upgrade come Thursday.
New York
No blemishes to this region. Carriers will deadhead longer distances to move south or west.
Washington/Oregon
Back to very loose, plentiful capacity. Any freight out of the area will be sought after.
Texas
South Texas is favorable near McAllen. San Antonio is fluctuating some, while Dallas & Houston remain constricted. Be wary of flooding in Central Texas.
