Overview & Projections
The latter part of July is typically the slowest period for summer freight, and this trend is continuing this year. Capacity is stabilizing, while tender rejection rates and tender lead times are decreasing. Shippers should anticipate improved rates and coverage this week.
Outbound tender rejection rates are currently falling below 12%. However, during the same period last year, rejection rates were in the low 8% range. Volatility is building, and the market is likely to experience a shift. The upcoming fall season will present the next opportunity for nationwide rate increases.
Florida and Georgia will now consistently provide relief to the Southeast region. Coverage will remain stable in Florida, with Georgia following a similar trend. Conversely, the Pacific Northwest is tightening in areas such as Yakima, Washington, and Hermiston, Oregon, as the apple and cherry season approaches.
Arizona
All parts outside of Southwestern Arizona are strong and it is benefitting that area. Upgrading overall.
California (Northern)
Uniform pricing will occur in Northern in Central parts. Doesn’t appear to changing anytime soon. Northern areas will shift once Oregon volumes increase.
California (Southern)
Market is similar to Central California. If anything, it will strengthen. Carrier compliance is modest.
Carolinas
The Carolinas are stabilizing as Florida and Georgia volumes dwindle. With time, demand will ease.
Eastern United States
Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey are the toughest areas to secure trucks. As product quantities increase, this with put pressure on surrounding states.
Florida (Northern)
Florida has turned the corner with availability materializing. Georgia is replenishing as well. Atlanta will remain the toughest market in the meantime.
Florida (Southern)
Plentiful capacity and decreased rates the rest of July. Capacity will move north for freight.
Georgia
Florida has turned the corner with availability materializing. Georgia is replenishing as well. Atlanta will remain the toughest market in the meantime.
Idaho
Spot rates are mediocre and shouldn’t shift much. Availability is comparable with last week.
Midwest
Moderately tight conditions all around. Isn't too challenging just yet, but production is rising.
New York
The Hudson Valley and Syracuse markets are shifting. August will bring increased apple volumes.
Washington/Oregon
Most demanding areas will be in the Yakima and Hermiston. Nothing too strenuous for now.
Texas
Tightening in South Texas. Laredo and McAllen rates are up. Consistent in Dallas and Houston. All other areas are stable.
